The Marcellus Shale. It's now music to the ears of landowners and mineral owners in small towns across West Virginia.
New faces are appearing every day knocking on our doors and offering to give landowners more cash in hand for a lease of their minerals than most orginally paid for their entire farm.
Sadly, many owners signed those leases for 10.00 an acre or even 50.00 an acre and laughed all the way to the bank. What they failed to realize and what the landman didn't tell them was tomorrow their neighbor would be offered 100.00 an acre then 200.00 an acre and higher.
Fact is, most all of West Virginia, Pennsylvania and part of New York sits atop the Marcellus Shale. A shale layer that literally dwarfs the Barnett, the Fayettville and all other shale formations in the United States. It's been known for decades that the Marcellus contains natural gas - a motherload of natural gas. Trouble was, there wasn't an economical way of tapping into those reserves - until three years ago.
Now, with a new drilling technique the Marcellus can and is being drilled. In fact, of the 500 trillion CF of Natural Gas believed to be found in the Marcellus, experts feel they can recover 50 trillion CF ... enough to run the entire country for 2 years!
In a nutshell, most of West Virginia is sitting on a GoldMine. In Pennsylvania and New York lease amounts are exceeding 3000.00 an acre. Landowners are receiving roylaties of 16,000 to 20,000 per month.
